Having cleared a backlog in voter registration forms that sparked rebuke from the state board of elections, the Onondaga County Board of Elections is now looking toward November's general election.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said Thursday that the backlog in registrations — which was more than 23,000 unprocessed applications as of Sept. 27, according to state officials — has been addressed and solved to the state's liking. McMahon had offered assistance earlier this week in clearing the backlog.

Onondaga County Commissioners of Elections Dustin Czarny and Michele Sardo said in a statement that, over the last six weeks, the county was working to process "an unprecedented surge" in registrations.

"During that time, we processed over 30k registration forms and 25k vote by mail applications," the statement read. "That is more work than we sometimes receive in an entire year. ... We are now processing daily and believe we have the resources to deliver on this very important election three weeks from now."

Early voting for the general election begins Oct. 26, running through Nov. 3. Election Day is Nov. 5.
