In a rare weekend meeting, the West Genesee Board of Education moved to buy land adjacent to the high school that's currently part of Westvale Golf Course.

The land, which according to Superintendent David Bills is 117 acres, "presents opportunities for our students and the future of our district," Bills said. "The location of the property relative to current West Genesee CSD and the access to both West Genesee Street and Kasson Road provides additional access points and space not currently available to us."

The board meeting was held Saturday afternoon, but Bills said there will be parts of the process "that will involve the community, including Board of Education meetings, community forums, and a proposition for voter approval."

Bills said in the statement that residents will receive more information in the next few days and weeks. The next board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
