The first debate is officially under the belt for the Onondaga County executive race.
This year, current Democratic Onondaga County Legislator Bill Kinne is challenging current County Executive and Republican incumbent Ryan McMahon.
The Washington Square Task Force hosted the debate Tuesday evening, marking the start of the fall campaign season.
If elected, Kinne would become the first Democrat to fill the county executive position.
Kinne said there should be better transparency and communication between county leaders and the public. He also hopes to address budget concerns.
Meanwhile, McMahon remains focused on the incoming $100 billion project known as Micron. He also plans to address poverty, infrastructure and economic development if re-elected.
"Our administration is going to help execute on the promise of Micron, but we're going to keep being aspirational moving forward," McMahon said.
"Once I have knowledge of where the money is, I'm going to start investing it into the people of this county. We're going to lower taxes and improve infrastructure," Kinne said.
Election Day is Nov. 7. Early voting will begin on Oct. 28 and run through Nov. 6.
