Syracuse Police say a 30-year-old man has been arrested in Ohio in connection with a shooting at the Blue Star Gas Station in Syracuse that left an employee dead Sunday morning.

It marked the city's first homicide of the year.

Officers said Kareen Huggins was charged with the murder of the 32-year-old gas station employee — Raouf Muharram — as well as possession of a weapon.

Investigators learned that during the shooting, Huggins had been using a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Officers said Ohio State Highway Patrol found Huggins on Monday around 12:45 a.m. at a rest area along the Ohio Turnpike in Sandusky, Ohio.

Huggins was taken into custody without incident and authorities said he had a stolen handgun in his possession.

He is being held and will await extradition back to New York state.
