An elderly woman's death is being investigated by Syracuse Police as a homicide.
According to Syracuse Police, officers responded to a residence at 753 James St. for a status check. When they arrived, they found the woman dead inside the residence.
The name and age of the victim are still under investigation.
Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner said his department is all too familiar with the apartment building, which has been a hot spot for crime.
"We have reports of drugs, larceny, burglary, I've had an overdose here, and also assaults," Buckner said. "We certainly have had frustrating interaction with the management of this property."
The apartment building is owned by local football star Tim Green and his son Troy. Spectrum News has reached out to them to see if they have any response.
“I am sickened by this senseless act of violence and I grieve for the victim and her loved ones. I know Chief Buckner and the Syracuse Police Department are doing everything they can to find and hold accountable whoever is responsible," Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said in a statement later Wednesday. "I spoke with the Chief at the scene earlier this afternoon, and he will provide updates as they become available. The management of Skyline Apartments has been the focus of increased enforcement for health, housing and safety concerns in recent months. I’m angry over what the people who live there have been put through and are now experiencing. We will use every authority available to us to make the Skyline a safer place for its residents and our entire community.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at (315) 442-5222.
