DEWITT, N.Y. — Police arrested the man they believe shot and killed two employees of a Chili's restaurant in DeWitt early Saturday morning.
Authorities arrested William D. Wood, Jr., 32 of Syracuse, and charged him wit two counts of first-degree murder and one count of robbery. He was arraigned Sunday morning and ordered held without bail.
DeWitt police officials say the victims were shot at the Chili's on Erie Boulevard East just after 1 a.m.
One of them died at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Officials say the suspect fled the scene before they arrived.
On Saturday, police had identified Wood as a suspect.
Employees huddled together outside the restaurant later Saturday morning, and people who work nearby say they're at a loss for words that something like this could happen. They say they've never felt unsafe until now.
"Shocked, shocked, I almost don't believe it. But I'm shocked. Never, never, this is the first time", says Eve Jackson, a Shoppingtown employee for decades.
