WEST MONROE, N.Y. -- A man has been arrested in a deadly attack in Oswego County.

The sheriff's department says 42-year-old Robert Diffin was assaulted inside his home Monday on Breckheimer Road in the town of West Monroe. He died shortly after being taken to the hospital.

"He was a great guy," said Jeremy Springer, Diffin's friend. "He just stuck to himself. Did his own thing, went to work, came home, loved his kid, loved having his kid over. [He] just wouldn't hurt a fly."

Another man was also seriously hurt. Michael Shane, 59, has been in critical condition since Monday morning's assault.

Tuesday morning, deputies announced the arrest of 33-year-old Mathew LeBoeuf of Central Square. Officials say he is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault.

LeBoeuf is expected in court this Friday.

It's not clear what led to the attack, but the sheriff's office is still investigating. They're asking anyone with information to call 315-349-3411.
