New York's daily COVID positivity rate is 1.36%, the lowest since July 18, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Sunday.
According to the latest numbers released by the governor's office, 1,507 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, a drop of 34 patients from Saturday's numbers.
The governor says the state has had a positivity rate under 2% for 10 consecutive days.
On Sunday, 1,566 new cases and 12 new COVID-related deaths were also announced.
"Time and time again, New Yorkers have shown that in the face of hardship they will always do what's necessary to keep themselves and their communities safe and well," Hochul said in a statement. "While we have made incredible progress against COVID-19, it is vital that those who have yet to take advantage of the vaccine do so as soon as possible. It's free, effective, and readily available. To maintain the progress we've made, get your vaccine today."
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cited by the governor, 95% of all New Yorkers age 18 and older have received at least one vaccine dose and 85.7% have completed their vaccine series. For New Yorkers between 12-17, 81.9% have received at least one vaccine dose, and 71.8% have completed the vaccine series. Among residents of all ages, 89.1% have received at least one dose and 75.7% have completed their vaccine series, according to the CDC.
New York's seven-day average positivity rate is currently 1.56%. New York City's seven-day average positivity rate is currently the lowest in the state, at 1.03%. Central New York has the highest rate of any region in the state, with a 4.56% reported seven-day COVID positivity average.
