Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations are at their lowest point since Christmas, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Saturday.

According to the latest numbers released by the governor's office, statewide hospitalizations dropped by 345 over the past day, while 5,466 residents remain hospitalized. On Saturday, 91 new COVID-related deaths were announced. 

New York's single-day COVID positivity rate is below 4.0% for the first time since Nov. 26, Hochul said, and currently sits at 3.76%.

"As we come down from the peak of Omicron, it is clear that New Yorkers are doing the right things to keep each other safe and healthy," Hochul said in a statement. "Wearing masks, washing hands, and getting vaccinated and boosted help to contain the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. The vaccine, especially, is the tool we all need to utilize in our fight. If you haven't already, get vaccinated, get your second dose, and get your booster."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data cited by the governor, 95% of all New Yorkers age 18 and older have received at least one vaccine dose and 84.8% have completed their vaccine series. For New Yorkers of all ages, 87.8% have received at least one dose and 74.4% have completed their vaccine series.

Over the past 24 hours, 52,158 vaccine doses were administered and 309,991 shots were given out in the past seven days.

New York's seven-day average positivity rate is currently 4.87%. 

As of data provided on Saturday, the North Country's seven-day average positivity rate of 11.02% is the highest in the state, followed by Central New York at 9.79% and Western New York at 8.92%. The region of the state with the lowest seven-day average positivity rate is currently New York City, with a reported 3.09% rate.
