As the large mass vaccination sites become a thing of the past, the emphasis is shifting to smaller pop-up venues.

Collins Barber & Beauty Shop in Syracuse hosted a pop-up clinic Friday.

Health officials say the smaller clinics have a couple of advantages. One of those is location, as by setting up in neighborhoods, people without transportation can walk in. The second is to be in a place where people feel a sense of community.

"That's very important for us to do outreach in those places where people feel comfortable, Onondaga County Health Commissioner Dr. Indu Gupta said. "That this is an individual that if he is promoting it, he believes in it."

Upcoming clinics will be held at Road to Emmaus ministry on East Glen Avenue next Tuesday, the Syracuse DPW on Wednesday, and Tucker Missionary Baptist on July 9.

The county also has a clinic every Tuesday in the Civic Center basement.
