Micron and the federal government have sealed the deal on the funding agreement on their future plant outside Syracuse.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's office confirmed Tuesday that the up-to-$6.1 billion in CHIPS & Science Law funding for Micron to build a new facility upstate is finalized and secured. This locks in the funding for the massive new chip fabrication facility being built in Clay.

"A historic day and historic agreement for Upstate NY and America," Schumer said in a press release. "This final award locks in the federal investment Micron needs for shovels to be able to hit the ground and create thousands of good-paying jobs here in Upstate N.Y."

Micron will also expand its operation in Idaho through the CHIPS funding.

President Joe Biden announced the federal funding when he visited Syracuse in April. Schumer told reporters in November he's confident the CHIPS Act that helped spur the Micron project will remain intact despite the changes of power coming to the White House and Congress in January.

The Micron project is currently in somewhat of a holding pattern as they look to clear trees on the site. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon says that work won't happen until next year as they work around an endangered bat species living in the area.
