After what has seemed like the winter that just won't quit, there are signs of spring as we look forward into May.
After what has seemed like an absolute roller coaster ride during April and the first couple days of May, we seem to be turning a corner and making our way into more spring-like weather across the Badger State.
While April is usually when we see a gradual transition from winter to spring, winter was not ready to release its grip on Wisconsin.
However, according to the Climate Prediction Center, we will likely see warmer air build back into the state by the second week of May. After starting the month with temperatures near to below average, we begin our slow climb to spring warmth by about May 7.
Beyond that, the overall pattern is in favor of some slightly warmer temperatures through the first part of the month, but signs point to an overall trend toward average temperatures for the month.
Temperatures close to average don't sound so bad when you consider that our average highs in May jump from the low to mid-60s on May 1 to the low and mid-70s by the end of the month.
Long-range weather models seem to indicate that our prolonged winter may finally end, and I think most Wisconsinites are ready to welcome spring with open arms.
