In typical fashion, April featured a lot of up and down temperatures and a variety of precipitation types.
Steady rain, a few thunderstorms, scattered showers, wet snow, sleet and wind were all in the mix on and off through the month.
Six days featured highs in the 50s, with six more in the 60s. Eight days featured highs in the 50s. Five featured highs in the 70s.
We reached the 80s four times, with the warmest being 84 degrees on the April 14. Only one day topped out in the 30s and that was early in the month.
The average temperature for the month ended up being 50.2 degrees, which is 3.4 degrees above average. The average temperature is calculated by summing the maximum and minimum daily temperatures for all 30 days.
Precipitation ended up just a smidge above average for the month. 3.34 inches f liquid precipitation was recorded at the Greater Rochester International Airport. That put the month 0.35 inches above average.
So far, May is off to a chilly start, with high temperatures running well below the seasonal average which is in the low 60s right now. A warmer pattern will prevail this coming weekend and may stick around for a while, though it doesn’t look all that hot through mid-May.
