While many people are looking forward to getting outside to enjoy the warmest air of the year so far, we also have our sights set on more active weather Sunday.

What You Need To Know

  • Temperatures will get as warm as the 60s to near 70 degrees Sunday

  • Winds will gust up to 65 mph Sunday afternoon

  • Downed trees/tree branches and power outages are possible

  • The threat for damaging wind will diminish Sunday night

A round of showers and downpours Sunday morning will be followed by a dry break mid to late morning and into the afternoon.

Sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph will kick in out of the southwest, which will aid in boosting temperatures through the 60s.

The strongest wind gusts are expected Sunday afternoon.

High Wind Warnings have been issued across Western New York and east of Lake Ontario with Wind Advisories stretching from the North Country to the Finger Lakes Region.

Gusts of 60 to 65 mph will have the potential to take down tree branches and trees, damage power lines and cause power outages.

This will also make travel more difficult for high profile vehicles.

A few showers with embedded thunder will develop Sunday afternoon in association with a cold front.

Strong storms that develop could produce damaging wind gusts, even outside of the warning and advisory areas.

There is a marginal risk for severe storms Sunday afternoon into the early evening.

While there will be plenty of dry time to get outside and enjoy the spring-like warmth, it will certainly be a day to stay weather aware.

Fortunately, the threat for damaging winds will subside Sunday night as cooler air drains in for Monday.
