CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — After days of closings and flight cancellations, Buffalo Niagara International Airport has opened the runway up again to airlines.

Airport crews worked to clear out over 50 inches of snow that fell over the weekend, allowing flights to finally resume.

Crews were also able to clear out parking lots and surrounding roadways, allowing stranded travelers to get out of the airport.

"This is really a testament to our crews,” said Kelly Khatib, NFTA communications manager. “They've been working hard. We've had the airport fire, we had some of our airfield crews, also had transit police, they all worked together, came together. They've cleared all those parking lots. They were also able to help motorists.”

The NFTA also says it is now offering limited bus services with various routes being resumed as conditions allow. The Buffalo Metro Rail is also running trains every half hour, though paratransit service is still suspended.

Now that the airport is open, officials say if you are planning to fly, check in with airlines to get the most up-to-date information on the status of flights.
