Gov. Kathy Hochul's office is sending some of the more than 7,700 utility workers from across the state to help with power outages in Western New York.

The region in the midst of record-setting winds, snow and blizzard conditions.

If you see a downed power line, officials say treat it like it's live and do not approach it.

Hochul is also urging people to stay off the roads, even though it's a holiday weekend.

"It is an important time of gathering, especially after being separated during the COVID Christmases and Hannukahs, where people were separated,” said Hochul. “So I know there's a strong desire to be with loved ones at this time, but the lives of your loved ones and yourselves come first."

If you take the risk of driving, Hochul says prepare to be stranded and keep food, water and sandbags in your vehicle.
