A new indoor waterpark is making a real splash in the Poconos. Time Warner Cable News’ travel reporter Valerie D’Elia filed the following report.
It used to be known for lovers and heart-shaped tubs, but now, the Poconos, the legendary tourism area in Pennsylvania, is going with the flow to the delight of parents and kids.
At a recent media event, the partners of the new Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Indoor Water Park, christened the $163 million development in knee deep fashion.
"Even a little bit more than family travel, our guests come because they seek adventure - probably the most innovative indoor waterpark that you will ever get to visit," says Arthur Berry, president of Camelback Mountain Resort.
For now, the Camelback complex lays claim to the largest indoor waterpark in the Northeast, with 7 pools and 13 waterslides under a transparent roof that keeps the temperature at 84 degrees year-round. Later this summer though, a similar, arguably larger, development by Kalahari resorts is set to open nearby.
Camelback Lodge has 453 guest rooms and a mix of restaurants, with a two night minimum stay on weekends. Limited-time Sneak Peek day passes to Aquatopia are available through June 14 for either $30 or $40, depending on height. After that, free admission to Aquatopia will only come with a hotel reservation, although day passes will be sold to guests who show proof of purchase from the outdoor attractions.
