LOCKPORT, N.Y. -- Anne McCaffrey, who announced she's resigning as Lockport's mayor after 4 1/2 years in politics, says she's extraordinarily proud of seeing the Niagara County city turn around what was once a dire financial outlook.

"We now are sitting on a $4.4 million fund balance, so I'm really pleased with that,” said McCaffrey, R-Lockport. "We've put a lot of emphasis on our infrastructure. We've paved over 35 miles of city streets. We have 90 miles, so over a third of our streets have been repaved.

We've gotten $16 million dollars in new grants, so we really put a lot in financially to turn this city around."

McCaffrey will next become president and CEO of Eastern Niagara Hospital. She previously worked in Buffalo for 18 years as a mental health administrator.

"I know many people in Lockport want to make sure that our hospital is here to stay and I've lived in Lockport all my life – my goal will be to make sure that the hospital is financially viable that we're providing excellent health care to our community and that it's here to stay," said McCaffrey.

McCaffrey’s last day in office is Wednesday, August 8. Common Council President David Wohleben will succeed her.
