A New York State Trooper originally from West Seneca was seriously injured as he helped a stranded motorist Monday.
Trooper Joseph Gallagher, 35, stopped to help a disabled motorist on the on-ramp to the Sagtikos State Park in Long Island when he was struck by a vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle stopped after hitting Trooper Gallagher. No charges have been filed.
Gallagher has been a member of the State Police since 2014 and is assigned to Troop L, SP Brentwood.
No further information about his condition was immediately available. He's being treated at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
