A prisoner whose escape two years ago led to a statewide manhunt has been moved to Wyoming County.
David Sweat, along with Richard Matt, escaped from Dannemora’s Clinton Correctional Facility in June 2015 and were on the run for three weeks. Matt was shot and killed during the search.
Sweat was shot by officers and taken back into custody two days later.
Officials say Sweat was transferred to the Attica Correctional Facility from Five Points Correctional Facility in Seneca County.
The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision did not give a specific reason for the transfer but did say that there are about 5,000 inmate transfers from one prison to another every month.
Inmates are moved based on biannual reviews, which include looking at an inmate’s behavior, allegiances with other inmates that could become disruptive or demonstrate over-familiarity with a facility.
