Orchard Park is reconsidering the drone flying ordinance it adopted in 2015.

The current law stipulates that drones cannot fly within one mile of an “open air” event with more than 200 people in attendance. Drones are prohibited four hours before, and two hours after, an event at New Era Field.

The proposed new regulation would forbid owners from flying drones within a mile of any community sponsored event and would restrict drone activity for two hours before and after games or concerts at the stadium.

Michael Sherry, an Orchard Park councilmember, says the proposed changes are similar in nature to the kind of protects embodied in “vehicle and traffic laws” to protect public safety.

The town board is scheduled to hold another public hearing on the proposal on the 15th. A vote could take place that evening.
