BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The days of running out to feed an expired meter have come to an end in the city of Buffalo. Tuesday marked the launch of Buffalo Roam, a new app that allows parkers to pay for parking on their mobile devices.

"You don't have to get out of the car, don't have to walk to the meter if you don't have quarters, you don't have to worry about running to a store to get change," said Joel Feroleto, Buffalo Common Council-Delaware District.

Parkers will just have to plug in their phone number, license plate number and a credit card, then they're free to feed the meter from anywhere in the city.

"So if you're having lunch at a restaurant down the street, you'll get an alert on your cell phone that your parking is about to expire and you can push one button to extend that parking," said Feroleto.

The app is free to download, but parkers are charged a 10 cent service fee for each initial park. Those uninterested in using the app can still pay at any of the city's physical meters.
