WILSON, N.Y. -- A blue-skied day and not a lot of wind proved to be a bit of reprieve for the shorelines of Lake Ontario Wednesday. However, water started to encroach on many homes in Niagara County, flooding them out.
Daisy Barn Campground Manager Roger Phillips says a solid seawall with boulders and two layers of concrete were built along its shores many years ago, but holes have started to appear.
"The lake is higher. The waves come crashing over the top of that, and when they leave, they take soil and everything," said Phillips.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services Department continue their daily observations and now have their eyes on yet another bout of rain that will likely kick up Thursday and into the weekend.
"We've got some North, Northeast winds coming again toward the end of the week. Those are the ones that push the water back on the low-lying areas and affect the shoreline," Niagara County Emergency Services Director Jonathan Schultz said.
Schultz says contingency plans are in place in case evacuations need to occur. And while the RVs at Daisy Barn aren't in any sort of immediate danger—they're situated on higher ground—Phillips is warning folks to stay safe if they explore the area.
"Stay away from the rail, stay away from the large openings. Wouldn't want anyone to get hurt," said Phillips.
