A sheriff's deputy was honored by the Erie County Legislature Friday for some off-duty heroics on Friday.
Deputy Brian Pauly is credited with saving a driver and a passenger from their car after it flipped over during an accident in Elma last month.
Pauly came upon the accident while on his way to work.
He says it's all part of the job.
"This is the reason to get into the job, for stuff like that," said Pauly. "Where you feel like you are able to make a little bit of a difference. That's kind of your reward for getting into it."
A victim of the accident, Roger Bostwick, says he is thankful for Pauly's actions.
"I'm very thankful [because] I'm here today because of that guy. He saved our lives. I believe that for whatever reason, he was there. And I needed him there that day," said Bostwick.
He says he had been looking forward to meeting Pauly since the accident.
