BUFFALO, N.Y.--  More than 700 Western New Yorkers are taking a swim to continue the fight against pediatric cancer.

They dove into the waters at Gallagher Beach Sunday for the 14th annual Carly's Crossing fundraiser.

Swimmers take part in an open water swim to raise money for clinical trials and support programs at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Carly Cottone, a young swimmer from Amherst, lost her battle with brain cancer in 2002.

Since then, Carly's Crossing has raised more than $1,000,000 dollars to support pediatric cancer research.

"I don't think you can ask for a more giving community than the Western New York community,” Robin Nusbaum, Carly's Club Manager.  “We are so grateful to be a part of that and part of a cause that's so close to people's hearts.  Cancer touches a lot of people."

This year's swim raised $160,000 for Roswell Park.
