TONAWANDA, N.Y.-- A brief standoff in the Town of Tonawanda ended without injury.
Police were called to an apartment building on Kenmore Avenue around 11 a.m. Sunday.
They said Demario James had an order of protection filed against him to stay away from his ex-girlfriend at an address on St. John Avenue.
Jessica Wiles tried to contact police for assistance but he stopped her.
She was able to flee the apartment and took her 10-month-old child with her.
James then barricaded himself in the apartment and refused to come out.
When police tried to negotiate with him, he threw items out the window at officers and tried to light the apartment on fire.
After about an hour and a half a SWAT team gassed him out.
He was taken into custody without injury and was charged with arson, burglary, criminal contempt, criminal mischief and harassment.
Other residents from the apartment building had to be evacuated.
