BUFFALO, N.Y. — A festival of lights and lanterns is happening at the Buffalo Zoo.

When the sun goes down, the lights come up, giving guests a unique way to view the zoo. While the animals are sleeping, people can play in an illuminated world of wonder.

This immersive event highlights Asian culture with sky-high sculptures and lanterns shipped from China, hand-painted and lit up throughout the night every Thursday through Sunday.

From the 50-foot dragon to the Wisteria Tunnel, officials say it's an event that will light the way for folks of all ages.

“It's pretty magical," said Julie Mogavero, director of marketing. "It really gets us excited because we have worked so hard to prepare this for the city of Buffalo and our community here. And it's exciting to give them something new that they haven't really experienced before."

The fun starts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
