BUFFALO, N.Y. — Holiday magic is in the air and for anyone looking to get into the spirit of the season, look no further than the Buffalo Zoo.
It's a special time at the zoo because, like Christmas, the Zoo Lights event happens only once a year. This year it's back and better than ever. There is more fun, more nights and more lights.
The setup starts in September to turn the zoo into an illuminated wonderland. Visitors will make their way through the winding trails to find thousands of lights and maybe a sleigh filled with presents and jolly old Saint Nick.
This year, there's even more to explore at the after-hours event with a hot cocoa station, a smores stop and fire pits to keep the kids warm.
Zoo Lights is only the beginning of the planned festivities. Zoo officials say there is more to come because events like it are vital to keeping the zoo up and running.
"Every time anybody visits the zoo, they're supporting us," said Christian Dobosiewicz, communications manager. "So we can't operate without the support of our community. So just by visiting, you're helping help take care of our animals by providing necessary funds for us to feed them and take care of them as well as our keepers as well. So it's a great way to come support the zoo and have some fun while you're here."
Zoo Lights runs every weekend from 5:30-9 p.m.
