BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Juneteenth Festival will take place this year — in virtual form.

Virtual events and activities for the 46th Juneteenth Festival of Buffalo will be held on June 19 and 20. The theme for 2021 is “The Continual Evolution of Juneteenth."

In addition to online elements, the two-day festival will also feature outdoor activities, the annual parade, children’s activities, entertainment, and vendors.

Juneteenth was originally celebrated in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned they were free. It came two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
