The extension is reportedly worth $330 million, which would make Allen among the league’s highest-paid players.
Cutting the soon-to-be 36-year-old frees up at least $8.4 million for Buffalo.
This comes after the team locked up linebacker Terrel Bernard and wide receiver Khalil Shakir.
The Sabres have acquired center Josh Norris and defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker.
Bernard finished his third NFL season with 104 tackles, two interceptions, three quarterback hits, one sack and three passes defensed.
