GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- Behind dominant scoring stretches in the first half, Middle Early College rolled to the NYSPHSAA Class C state boys basketball championship Saturday night.

The Kats routed Haldane 82-40 for the championship at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Middle Early trailed just once, 5-0 in the first 2 minutes, 9 seconds, before going on a 19-0 run and never looking back.

Game MVP Gary F. Foster had a double-double with game highs in points (23) and rebounds (17) for the Kats. Joseph Staton added 18 more points and Billy Rivera scored 17 for Middle Early.

"We wanted to put it away quick," Foster said. "In the game before, we let the team come back. We don't want to have games like that. ... We want to blow teams out and get the game done early.

"I think this is one of our best games."

Forward Blaine Fitzgerald led Haldane with nine points and nine rebounds, as no Blue Devil scored or rebounded in double figures. Middle Early outrebounded Haldane 63-38.
