Southwestern senior Kara Schutte helped lead the girls varsity volleyball team to sectionals this season. She's also vice president of her class and National Honor Society and she volunteers in the community.

"Kara is a leader on and off the court. She leads by example," said volleyball coach Amanda Krakowiak. "She's been varsity captain for the last three seasons. I believe she's someone who completely exemplifies what a scholar athlete is. She is competitive on the court and she's just as dedicated in the classroom."

"Playing sports and managing school is definitely really hard but I am a very organized person so, I always plan ahead and I make a schedule for myself, when I can do my homework, when my sports will be and make sure I can finish everything and have time to do other activities," Kara said.

"She makes sure that everything that she does is with her best effort," Krakowiak said. "She's always positive and encouraging to the younger teammates and she shows them what we can do with hard work and I have no doubt that she will be successful in anything and everything that she chooses to do."
