Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Kristian Ruggiero is a true Western New Yorker who lives and breathes all things weather, so much so that he likes to chase storms and drive along the waterfront looking for waterspouts. He even participated in a storm chaser course throughout the Great Plains with Mississippi State University.

With a love of meteorology that inspires him to keep learning and growing, Kristian’s most meaningful story was a flood event in Niagara County in the summer of 2021, where some roads were completely underwater and cars had gotten stuck. “I wanted to make sure drivers were making good choices and offered tips on how to avoid a dangerous situation,” he said, adding that he is proud to live in Buffalo because it’s a community that pulls together to help one another out. “We’re the City of Good Neighbors and it shows every day.”

Always on the lookout for the best vegan dishes in the area, Kristian feels most connected to the WNY community through his students at school, volunteering for local animals rescue organizations and, of course, weather. While he currently has three cats and three chinchillas of his own, he loves to foster animals, especially kittens.

Looking ahead, Kristian is excited about the continuing development of the area, including all the new restaurants and breweries.
