A mosque in Queens holds a special prayer service to honor Muhammad Ali days after his death at age 74.

At Masjid Alhamdulillah, Ali was remembered not as an icon or a hero, but as a brother in faith.

The Ṣalat al-Janazah is part of of the Muslim funeral ritual. It's considered an obligation - to pray for pardon and redemption of all the dead.

Believers in mosques around the world are reportedly speaking the prayer for Muhammad Ali.

In South Jamaica, congregation members also shared personal memories.

"And I met him and he spoke, and he gave me an autographed picture of himself, and the second time I met him was at the Muslim Day parade, and we prayed together, you know? And that was a significant thing for me," said one congregant.

"He touched everyone, you know," said another. "When he spoke, he spoke from the heart."

Community members say they treasure Ali's lifelong courage and commitment to his beliefs, including Islam.
