Multiple counties from Western New York to the North Country remained in a state of emergency Sunday evening with up to two feet of snow expected into Monday.
There has been some improvement, with travel bans rescinded in many areas.
And with some of the heaviest snowfalls hopefully behind us, streets and parking lots are quite a mess in some areas, even if you can see patches of pavement.
But one issue that’s unexpected until you have to deal with it is giant snow mounds.
“This is really what we are prepared for," Erie County Public Works Commissioner William Geary said. "Given that it's a day event, our crews are constantly rotating out every 12 hours. And again, I can't give enough props. And thanks to all the men and women and public works that were out through the week, from the state, counties and local municipalities and cities.
Ultimately, Geary says this snow event, while pretty decent, was a good way for public works from towns, cities and counties to get some practice in and work together.
