NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — With school back in session, school buses are on the road. And if you try to pass a school bus in Niagara Falls, you could face heavy fines.
A new program aimed at protecting students began on Monday. The program features stop-arm cameras on the sides of school buses.
The cameras will record license plates on vehicles that illegally pass a stopped bus.
The city said the installation and maintenance of the cameras is completely paid for by tickets that were given out for this very issue. So all the money is used to increase the safety of those on the street.
The fine for failing to stop for a school bus ranges from $250 for a first violation to a maximum of $1,000.
