LOCKPORT, N.Y. — The Red Cross has announced that they will close their emergency shelter at the Rapids Volunteer Fire Department on Plank Road in Lockport at 6 p.m. Saturday. The shelter opened Wednesday in response to heavy flooding along Robinson Road.

At the shelter, people were provided with a place to stay with food and water. Grief counselors were also available.

"The Red Cross will continue to monitor the situation and stands ready to respond as necessary," the Red Cross said in a press release. "In the meantime, Red Cross volunteers continue to provide services including emergency supplies and casework support to those residents as part of their recovery process."

The Red Cross reminds everyone to avoid floodwater as much as possible as it may be contaminated with sewage.
