AMHERST, N.Y. — The investigation into a massive industrial fire in Amherst continues.

Crews spent hours putting out the flames and hot spots. The focus now is the cleanup.

The town plans to test soils in nearby neighborhoods, and at the Mathewson McCarthy baseball diamonds to make sure there are no toxic materials that may have settled from the smoke and debris.

The DEC and the town of Amherst are also monitoring storm water and runoff, most of that water was contained on site.

The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and, at its height, smoke could be seen for miles around.

Gov. Cuomo even dispatched resources from the state Office of Fire Prevention to help.
