BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mayor Byron Brown says Shaquelle Walker Jr., the 3-year-old boy who was shot in the head on Donovan Drive in Buffalo on Monday, has died.

Two persons of interest in that shooting are facing drug and gun charges in a separate case.

Dequan Richardson, 22, and Jonay Robinson, 25, were arraigned Thursday morning in Cheektowaga.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn says police executed a search warrant at their apartment on Slate Creek Drive. Investigators allegedly found an illegal pistol, illegal rifle and cocaine.

Flynn says the investigation into the shooting on Donovan Drive led to the search warrant for the apartment.

Four people, including the 3-year-old, were shot Monday night.

The DA could not say whether the guns allegedly found at the apartment were used in the shooting.

Richardson and Robinson both face multiple charges:

  • One count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree
  • One count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree
  • One count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree
  • One count of criminal possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree

If convicted of all charges, they face a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Mayor Brown released a statement Friday night, saying:

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family of three-year-old Shaquelle Walker, Jr. who has died after a senseless, tragic shooting on Monday night on Donovan Drive. This is a heartbreaking loss for our entire community. Please keep the family in your prayers, and please, please put the guns down."
