NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Authorities believe Buffalo State student Saniyya Dennis took her own life.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn gave a heartbreaking update Thursday in the disappearance of Dennis.

"Obviously, she was screaming out for help this day, it appears. She was calling her mother, calling her friends," Flynn said.

Investigators believe she took her own life.

Flynn laid out a timeline of what they believe happened. He said investigators were able to access more video from Niagara Falls State Park cameras and obtained phone records.

They were able to see text messages Dennis sent before she disappeared. She was last seen leaving her residence hall on Saturday, April 24.

Flynn says Dennis had an argument that day with her boyfriend, who lives in New York. She was later in contact with a male friend, who also lives in New York City.

Flynn says she expressed thoughts of suicide to both of them.

The friend spent hours on the phone with her.

Later that night, Dennis would take a bus to Niagara Falls.

Flynn says her scent was picked up by dogs near Luna Island and the Nikola Tesla monument.

Dennis’ body has not yet been recovered.

"Some are going to say, Mr. Flynn, without a body, do you definitively know that she took her own life? My answer is no, of course not. I can't definitively say that at all. All I can do is present you with what I have," Flynn said. “Obviously, it's just sad when you see something like this happen. Let me just reiterate, do I hope that I look like a fool, and that she shows up somewhere, OK? Yeah! Gosh. Make me look like a fool. I don't care. I hope she shows up somewhere."

Flynn says the friend and the boyfriend didn’t come forward about their conversations until they were contacted by authorities.
