The Buffalo Police Department continues to search for the parent or guardian of a 3-year-old boy who was found sleeping in a box on the porch of a home on Potomac Avenue around 8 a.m. Monday.

Police said the boy is not very verbal so it’s hard to figure out from him where his parents are and why he was on the porch.

So far, police have very little information to go on so they're asking the public for help.

“We received a phone call in the afternoon from an out-of-state person, stating that they believe that the child may a relative of theirs. We are currently investigating those circumstances, attempting to verify that information. Unfortunately right now we don't have a lot more to go on,” said Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo.

Captain Rinaldo said the child is in good health and he is currently in the care of police.

Police confirmed Tuesday that they're investigating whether there's any connection between the boy and a body found in a burned car about a mile away on Tonawanda Street.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the D-District police station at 716-851-4413.
