A noise complaint law is one step closer to reality for the town of Hanover following several complaints in the past few months.

A noise described as a "bird cannon" has been heard throughout the Silver Creek - Hanover area.

"Local law number four" would ban "unnecessary noise." The law was not passed Monday night, and will be reviewed further in the near future.

However, some people say the law's exemption for agriculture is too vague, and doesn't accurately detail noise violations pertaining to farmers and their machinery.  They say this could be an issue during harvesting season when they may work in the evening or overnight.

Others say there should be an established difference between unnecessary noise that's a nuisance such as the bird cannon, versus productive and reasonable noise like that from a farm.
