Niagara Falls is electing a new mayor for the first time since 2007.

Democrat Robert Restaino will now take over that seat as the unofficial winner after sitting Mayor Paul Dyster decided not to run for re-election.

Restaino is an assistant attorney with the county's Social Services Department.

He says he wants to bring integrity and fiscal responsibility back to the office, as well as tackle poverty through job creation, spur economic development, and make the city more business friendly and competitive.

Restaino ran against Republican Glenn Choolokian, who formerly sat on the Niagara Falls City Council, and Jeffrey Elder, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force who ran on a campaign-created Dynamic New Future line.

Working Families Party candidate Seth Piccirillo stopped campaigning after he lost the Democratic primary in June.
