Throughout the several-hundred page Mueller report, Western New Yorker and former Trump campaign staffer Michael Caputo showed up for about five paragraphs.

  • East Aurora resident Michael Caputo was a former Trump campaign adviser
  • Caputo makes a cameo in the Mueller report
  • He had been interviewed in Mueller's investigation

"My bet was that I would be in there for just about this much of a mention," Caputo said.

The incident was a previously reported meeting Caputo set up between his associate Roger Stone and a Russian who claimed to have dirt on Hillary Clinton. He said the report left key details out though.

"I find it very curious in the part where they talk about me being approached by a Russian offering dirt on Hillary Clinton, they forget to tell the public that this Russian was working for the FBI, had been for 17 years as an informant and was living in the United States on an FBI informant visa waiver," Caputo said.

Investigators determined there was no evidence the meeting had any connection with Russian interference effort. But Caputo said the omission about the informant showed a bias evident to him throughout the report.

"It's a mischievous report when you think about it," Caputo said. "If they did that to me, someone completely on the margin of this investigation, a witness and nothing more, if they did that to me, can you imagine the other mischievous things they did throughout this report?"

He said he believes investigators set the stage for House Democrats to turn their attention to obstruction of justice and hold a series of hearings over the coming weeks and months.

"Today they have switched the script," Caputo said. "You will no longer hear about collusion. You'll begin to hear only about obstruction."
