U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reversed terminations of legal status for some international students, which had impacted some Rochester universities.
This comes after the federal government revoked visas in what it said would be a crackdown on international students breaking the law.
Those impacted include the University of Rochester, which reported visas were revoked for five students and six recent graduates. U of R officials said the university was not informed of the decision ahead of time and they are "deeply troubled by the escalation of immigration enforcement activity toward our international students."
The U of R says three students have had their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) status reinstated.
The Rochester Institute of Technology also had SEVIS records for a few students returning to active status after being affected. The university did not provide an exact number.
