The Environmental Protection Agency will conduct a lead and copper inspection on the public water system in the city of Syracuse this week. The EPA sent a letter to Syracuse Water Department Commissioner Robert Brandt about the matter.
The inspection is taking place in coordination with the New York State Department of Health and the Onondaga County Health Department. It follows the results of sampling that was conducted during the first half of 2024. The agencies will be reviewing how well the city follows the lead and copper rule based on those samples.
These evaluations usually happen when a large public water system exceeds a certain lead safety limit, according to the EPA.
The city will receive the results after the evaluation is finished. The EPA says it will also provide a copy of the report upon request.
