WILSON, N.Y. — The Village of Wilson in northern Niagara County is without a grocery store after a fire Tuesday night.
The Wilson Lakeside Market caught fire around 7:00 p.m. in its warehouse on the second floor.
Firefighters from the Wilson Fire Company next door responded alongside mutual aid and were able to put the fire out in a little over two hours.
Wilson Fire Company President Pat Daul said the closure of the grocery store leaves residents with limited options.
“There's nothing really for the elderly or the people that don't have transportation,” said Daul.
The nearest grocery store is 20 minutes away in Newfane.
“Because we're a small community, you can walk to the grocery store, get your stuff and walk home, but now they're going to have to find a way to drive to get their stuff,” said Daul.
Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
