A pilot is dead after a small plane crashed in the town of Aurora Thursday morning, according to East Aurora Police.

Officials say the crash happened at 11:30 a.m. off Stewart Court, in close proximity to property owned by Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins.

"I just hope the pilot’s family is OK," Dawkins said at Bills practice. "I hope they’re doing all right because somebody lost their life today."

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including ambulance and fire crews.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash of the single-engine Beechcraft A36 plane.

The Buffalo Niagara International Airport reported the plane was experiencing mechanical issues. The plane was coming from Lansing, Michigan and was en route to White Plains, New York when it crashed.

Police have not yet identified the pilot.
