WESTFIELD, N.Y. — The people of Westfield are hiking on their snow boots and shoveling more than 30 inches of snow dropped on them by a post-Thanksgiving storm.
“It’s the wet and heavy kind so it likes to pack itself in there pretty good,” said Justin Ernewein as he shoveled snow from his driveway.
A few blocks over, neighbors teamed up to clear their driveways together.
“Because it’s the right thing to do,” said Thomas Sparling, 74, after shoveling two driveways and helping a neighbor finish up a third. “I think it’s the worst [snowstorm] we’ve had in 46 years. In that short period of time, it would have taken me all winter to be that deep in my yard.”
Meanwhile, second-grader CJ Gibson had the privilege of a snow day from Westfield Central School District.
His number one favorite thing to do: flips in the snow.
“My second favorite thing to do is throw snowballs at my mom,” he said with a smile, before leaping back into the snow blanketing his front yard.
