A musical follow-up about the New Horizons Band of Western New York, part of the family of New Horizon bands across the state.

The group, mostly composed of older adults over 60, recently performed its 20th anniversary celebration concert at SUNY Fredonia.

The group played a number of special arrangements and classic pieces, including from The Nutcracker.

We first met the group last month during the several weeks of rehearsals. Some of the older band members have just started playing an instrument, while other have picked it up again decades after playing in school.

The concert opened with the Star-Spangled Banner.

New Horizons Band originated in Rochester and also features bands in Rochester, Potsdam, Oswego and Syracuse.
